SpeedSize can be disabled or removed from a Shopify store at any time.
Before uninstalling the app, it is important to allow the restoration process to complete properly. Uninstalling the app without disabling optimization, or uninstalling it immediately after disabling SpeedSize, may leave processed theme assets unchanged because the app will no longer be able to restore them automatically.
This guide explains the recommended workflows for safely disabling or uninstalling the SpeedSize Shopify app.
This article contains the following topics:
- Disabling SpeedSize Globally
- Restoring Files Through Asset Management
- Verifying That SpeedSize Is Disabled
- Uninstalling the App
Disabling SpeedSize Globally (Recommended)
The recommended way to disable SpeedSize is through the main app settings.
To disable SpeedSize globally:
- Open the SpeedSize Shopify app
- Set Enable Neuroscience Media Optimization to No
- Save the settings
After saving the settings, the SpeedSize app will begin restoring processed theme assets automatically. Depending on the number of processed files and the store configuration, restoration may take several minutes to complete.
Important
If you plan to uninstall the app completely, do not uninstall it immediately after disabling SpeedSize. We recommend waiting 10-15 minutes before uninstalling the app to ensure the restoration process is completed and all processed theme assets are restored to their original state.
Restoring Files Through Asset Management
Assets can also be restored manually through the Asset Management section.
This method may be preferable when using Manual Processing Mode or when more granular control over restoration is required.
To restore files manually:
- Open the Asset Management section
- Select all assets using the top checkbox
- Click Restore & Ignore to prevent automatic reprocessing
- Wait until asset statuses are fully updated
In Automatic Processing Mode, restored assets should also be ignored to avoid automatic reprocessing.
Once restored assets are no longer marked as Pending Restore and their statuses are updated to Ignored and Restored, the app can be uninstalled safely.
Verifying That SpeedSize Is Disabled
After restoration is completed, you can verify that SpeedSize is no longer active on the storefront.
The easiest way to confirm this is by inspecting media requests in the browser.
When SpeedSize is disabled correctly:
- media URLs should no longer contain SpeedSize CDN domains such as
scdn.speedsize.com - assets should load directly from Shopify CDN domains
- SpeedSize CDN prefixes should no longer appear in Liquid-generated media URLs
You may also verify that processed Liquid files no longer contain SpeedSize CDN prefixes or SpeedSize Liquid filters.

Uninstalling the App
Once restoration is completed and SpeedSize is fully disabled, the app can be removed safely from the Shopify admin.
After the app is disabled and uninstalled:
- SpeedSize will stop processing theme assets
- the app configuration will be removed from Shopify
- storefront media will continue loading directly from Shopify CDN URLs
After the app is uninstalled, SpeedSize can no longer restore or modify theme assets automatically.
The original Shopify media files themselves are never modified or deleted by SpeedSize.
